Webcam Istanbul, Turkey: Kız Kulesi (Leander's Tower)

This small tower, built on the rock at the entrance of the Bosphorus, was used as a customs station, watchtower and lighthouse throughout history. The current foundations of the tower and important parts of the lower floor were built during the time of Fatih Sultan Mehmet. The Kız Kulesi, which greets the boats, ferries and ships floating on the Bosphorus at all hours of the day, was opened to tourism in 2000 after restoration works started in 1998. The tower, which can be reached by boats from Salacak and Ortaköy, continues to welcome its visitors as one of the most important symbols of Istanbul today.
