Beyazıt Tower is one of the most important elements of the historical peninsula's silhouette adorned with minarets. The historical structure, also known as the Beyazıt Fire Tower, was built in 1749 out of wood to monitor the fires, after the Küçük Pazar fire, which caused great losses in Istanbul. It is the first fire tower built to activate the pumpers in the city in case of possible fires.
The tower is accessed from the inside via a spiral-shaped wooden staircase. There are a total of 256 steps in the tower, 180 of which are on the observation floor. The length of the flagpole is 13 meters. The tower, which has been used to monitor fires since the day it was built, is still used for fire warning and meteorological forecasting purposes. Illuminating the tower in blue at night indicates that the weather will be clear the next day, green will be rainy, yellow will be foggy and red will be snowy.
