Split is Croatia's second-largest city and is picturesquely situated on the Adriatic coast in Dalmatia. Split is rightly a popular tourist destination and has much to offer:
  • Diocletian's Palace (Dioklecijanova palača)
Diocletian's Palace is the impressive centerpiece of the city and one of the best-preserved Roman antiquity buildings in the world. Built around 305 AD as the retirement home of the Roman Emperor Diocletian, it now houses shops, restaurants, apartments, and museums.
  • Cathedral of Saint Domnius (Sveti Duje)
Saint Duje Cathedral is the most important religious building in Split and one of the oldest surviving buildings in Christendom still in use as a cathedral. It is located at the center of Diocletian's Palace and is one of the most important testimonies to the transition from antiquity to Christianity.
  • Riva (Waterfront Promenade)
The Riva in Split is the city's elegant waterfront promenade. It runs directly along the old town wall of Diocletian's Palace and is lined with palm trees, cafés, and restaurants. It is particularly atmospheric at sunset or when the promenade is illuminated in the evening.
  • Split Archaeological Museum
The Split Archaeological Museum (Croatian: Arheološki muzej u Splitu) is the oldest museum in Croatia and one of the most important archaeological museums in the country. The collection includes finds from prehistoric, Greek, Roman, early Christian, and medieval periods, and explanations are mostly available in Croatian and English.
  • Marjan Hill
Marjan Hill rises approximately 178 meters above sea level and is located west of the Old Town. It is considered a local recreation area, viewpoint, and cultural symbol of the city. The terrace at Vidilica is particularly popular, offering stunning views of Split, Diocletian's Palace, and the Adriatic Sea.
  • Bacvice Beach
Bačvice Beach (Croatian: Plaža Bačvice) is Split's most famous and popular city beach, just a 10-minute walk from the city center. It offers a gently sloping sandy beach and is especially popular with families with children, as the water is very shallow and calm.
  • Meštrović Gallery
The Meštrović Gallery (Galerija Meštrović) in Split is an important art museum dedicated to the work of the famous Croatian sculptor Ivan Meštrović (1883–1962). Due to renovations, the gallery is currently only partially accessible. However, visitors can view the garden, outdoor sculptures, and architecture.
  • Split City Museum
The Split City Museum (Muzej Grada Splita) offers a comprehensive insight into the city's rich history and culture – from ancient times to the 20th century. The museum is located in the Papalić Palace, in the northeastern part of Diocletian's Palace, near the Golden Gate.
