Webcam in Istanbul, Turkey: Beyazit Square (Beyazıt Meydanı)

Beyazıt Square is one of the most important political and historical places of Istanbul. It was built by Emperor Theodosius in 393 AD as the largest square of the city. At that time, the square was known as 'Form Tauri Square' because of the bronze bull heads on the giant-sized triumphal arch in the middle. While a few marble blocks and column ruins have survived from the triumphal arch, there is no trace left of the monumental fountain in the north. Beyazıt Square, in the center of the Historic Peninsula, at the focus of the city's main transportation axes, is a place that has witnessed many historical events.
