Marmaris is an important port city on the Mediterranean coast, located in southwest Turkey, in the Muğla Province. Because of its location on the Aegean Sea, Marmaris is also an important tourist destination, as well as an important port city. Marmaris's main source of income for the city is tourism. Unlike Bodrum, Alaçatı or similar Turkish coastal towns, it has been somewhat "vandalized" architectually during the construction boom of the 1980s, but still retains its charm due to the exceptional natural beauty of its location.
